Spring Has Sprung...Finally

The above pic shows one of my favorite Trout holes....its a fresh water stream entering into a main river watershed (Clear River) in the heart of northern Rhode Island's NW corner....its right off a main road and few take the time to fish this incredible trout hole...caught all of my biggest fish here including many, many HUGE Rainbows and Brookies....what a peaceful, incredible place. The fresh water stream (as seen above) enters into a 10' deep slow moving crystal clear, rocky bottom riverbed....its really something. Hawks, ducks and all kinds of songbirds populate the riverbank...along with all kinds of mayflies and other hatches....its a Trout paradise...just one of many I fish at this time of year. Thank you Connie Kafalas (my grandfather) for showing me this spot dating back to 1978....when I caught my first whopper and was hooked more than the fish....nothing soothes the soul more than a gorgeous spring day out on the water fishing for Trout. It really is the best medicine for curing the winter blues and taking all the stress of the week off your plate...perfect way to spend a warm spring day!!! And here is 10 Trout tips of the week - the best lures you must have - and I know them all very well and all proven....Ok...here is the list....let's start with #10....lol the good ol' fashion live worm on a hook. Works especially good when the streams & rivers are running high - like now...dobber, free floated or right on the bottom with a split shot weight....caught my biggest fish on this simple, yet effective old school bait....

#9 is another great "blast from the past" and one that I fished for 20 years and caught "Tons of Trout" ...the classic Squirrel Tail fly on a water dobber 4' behind....cast it upstream or in a lake and reel it in very slow...killer...

#8...Is the Rapala Split Minnow....a classic and one of the most effective for LARGE Browns, Lakes and Brookies...boy this one is killer. Work it close to shore prior to and after sunset...even in complete darkness when the big ones come in close....killer...trust me...

#7...Panther Martin.....This one works for me, but any of his products work wonders....best spinners on the planet in my opinion...

#6....Rooster Tail...brown with the gold spinner...enough said...deadly!

#5....Al's Goldfish....another killer spoon that has fooled many, many Trout....

#4...not enough words for this killer...the old standby...Kastmaster...this one works best for me (Silver / Blue under all conditions)...but the gold and silver ones do the job depending on sun or clouds....sunshine = Silver / Clouds = Gold

#3....The infamous "Super Duper"...old school...but so effective and a true Trout killer...year after year...a must have in the tackle box!!!!

#2....Thomas "Bouyant"...in red and gold....absolute killer!!! No Trout can resist!!! I have absolutely clobbered so many Trout with this simple spoon...one of my favorites!!!

#1....The very best....Storm Wildeye Curly Tail Minnow - 2" length. Nothing kills more Trout, Bass, Perch, Panfish, Pickerel or anything else than this curly tail minnow...an absolute "must have" and has filled my fresh water cooler many times over...the best of the best!!!!

Beats everything I have ever used from custom tied flys to live bait...out-fishes everything.....it really is the best lure I have in my box and I am glad to share it with all my great customers....believe me....I am a fresh water Trout addict as much as I am a Codfishing fanatic....OK...I need fish therapy perhaps???

The "Low Down"....Fish Counter Bob and I are working hard to get this season started...but as always....we have all kinds of bullshit to overcome....and an old boat like mine provides us with all kinds of challenges and work....the damn port engine has some kind of knock (we think its the injection pump) so that's what we are dealing with this week......another $1,000 repair...or more....sickening....never ending expenses and bullshit.

So anyone who wants to bitch about the cost to fish this year can gladly take my billfold on to pay for all this endless shit out of pocket.....it's endless and sickening. WTF...never ends....sick of it. But thankfully, Bob and I are taking care of it and will have things ready to go soon....I hope!!!! My Goodness.....standby and will report this week....we need to get going...its time....standby....never ending....so we shall see....standby...

The Herring run at "Gilbert Stuart"...never been there till this past Saturday....FCB reached in and took several fish like nothing...bare handed and he did some things like I have never seen unreal....he really is the most fishy person on the planet....The "One and Only" FCB......the best deckhand on the planet....incredible.....what a team!!!!!!
