On Behalf myself and Fishcounter Bob, we both want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Gods blessings for you and your family in 2017. Running a small, six pack charter boat is purely a labor of love for us...and we appreciate every single new customer who has sailed with us this past season and we are dedicated to making 2017 much better! We are (and/or will be) the ONLY six-pack charter boat in Galilee that will be dedicated to pursuing the "Winter King" year round. For 2017, we will no longer be doing trips for any other species other than Cod with mixed by-catch....mainly Fluke, Seabass, Pollack, Ling, Scup and Bergalls. We plan to fish the Block Island Cod grounds Nov - May, then shift gears and fish Coxes Ledge June - Oct...with an emphasis on catching Cod "wherever" Bob and I deem they will be within those time frames....including some wrecks which are seldom fished. Last year on a recon trip my old mate Bill plucked a real nice off one of these drops...and it was an epic, drag pulling battle all the way to the gaff -wow what a fish that was (see the above pic). As most of you already know, Cod are one of the best eating fish on the planet and with a (10) fish pp bag limit, it makes the trip fare worthwhile. Besides...what is better than fishing for the "Winter King" in short sleeves?
The Update...shell bait is becoming a huge, huge problem this winter season. All my best suppliers cannot get the job done right now and every single bushel they have has been already sold to the local restaurants. So that leaves the little guys like us empty handed and without product. I have spent time on the phone calling everyone local...Snug Harbor is up to (drum roll please)....$60 for one stinking gallon of FROZEN clams! Since I need 3 at the minumum....adds $180 to the trip costs...outrageous and now exceeds the fuel cost. I am hoping the cost will drop after the holidays, but only time will tell. I have no plans to raise my rates for 2017, but I may have to do something to offset this outrageous expense...for now lets just keep fishing.
Trips...real good looking tides for the upcoming week, watching for a possible trip on Wednesday (Dec 28th) and perhaps one over the weekend (Dec 31st or Jan 1st) which ever day has the best weather. One spot open for Wed and I'm sure I will have a couple spots for the upcoming weekend....again, its all dependent upon the weather at this time of year. Call, txt or email me if your interested in jumping aboard. I will be attending various Christmas parties and family functions so if you call, just leave a message and I will get back to you promptly. Merry Christmas and God Bless...
